Guitar Concert Vol.46 – From New York to Shibuya / ニューヨークから東京渋谷へ

2025年12月18日（木）、東京・渋谷。

渋谷文化総合センター大和田にて、当教室のコンサートが主催されました。

ニューヨークで長年主催してきたギター教室が、日本へと舞台を移して初めて開催した、生徒たちによるギターコンサート— Guitar Concert Vol.46。

ニューヨークから渋谷へ

アメリカ・ニューヨーク で長い間ギター教室を主催してきました。

ニューヨークでは年に3回、定期的にコンサートを開催しており、それが教室の大切なイベントのひとつとなっていました。

舞台に立つことで生徒たちがワクワク、そして一段と成長する姿を、 いつも楽しみにしています。

そして日本への移住、東京という新しい街で(自分にとって東京は未開の国)、新たな生徒たちと出会い、再びギターの楽しさを伝える日々が始まりました。

日本の生徒たちは真面目、練習熱心、レッスンを重ねるごとに、その上達ぶりには目を見張るものがあります。

渋谷文化総合センター大和田

渋谷文化総合センター大和田は、東京・渋谷区桜丘町にある、地域文化の発信拠点として知られる施設です。

木目調の内装が際立つ、温かみと品格を兼ね備えた 音響の良い空間です。

クラシックギターは、ピアノやヴァイオリンと比べると音量が小さく繊細な楽器です、ギターの細やかなニュアンスまでがしっかりと客席 全体へと届く環境です。

コンサートでは、 照明調節によって、会場全体はほの暗くなり、ステージだけが柔らかなスポットライトで包まれます。

一気に本格的なコンサートホールへと変貌を遂げます。

木目の壁が温かな光を反射し、豪華しかし落ち着いた雰囲気が生みます。

リハーサル

コンサート開始前、少しの時間リハーサルを行いました。

今回参加した生徒の中には、コンサート 出演が人生初めての経験という方も少なくありませんでした。

本番と同じ 環境で、実際に弾いてみる。

環境によりギターの響きが顕著に変わります、緊張を和らげるためにも効果的。特に、初めてコンサートに参加する生徒たちにとって重要な時間。

コンサート開始

午後7時、コンサートが始まりです。

「弾きたい人から弾き始める」という形式。

Bomさんによるジブリの世界観と溶け合うクラシックギター「いつも何度でも」（Y.Kimura）、Okochi さんの「Minuet」（J.S.Bach）。。

Jordan さんの「Rumba y Fuego」（E.J.Hochman）、Shiqing さんの「Un Dia de Noviembre」（L.Brouwer）といった情熱的なラテン系の楽曲も演奏され、コンサートは多彩な表情見せます。

そして、安紀子さんによるラヴェルの「亡き王女のためのパヴァーヌ」。原曲はピアノ曲ですが、クラシックギターの編曲、忘れられない演奏でした。

法義さんによる誰もが知るあの旋律「Romance/禁じられた遊び」も、会場に大きな拍手をもたらします。

皆さん普段の教室でのレッスン時よりも、断然うまく弾いていました、本当に素晴らしかったです。

舞台に立つ、人の前で弾くという緊張がプラスに転じ、集中力が研ぎ澄まされ、その結果、ベストな演奏が生まれます。

東京とニューヨークが繋がる

そして、NYC。

日本の生徒の演奏が一段落し、オンラインでニューヨークにいる生徒たちと繋がります。

これは初めての試み。東京・渋谷の会場、ニューヨークの生徒たちが 同じコンサートを共有します。

映像は鮮明で、音声もクリア、同じ部屋でコンサートをしているかのような臨場感。

スクリーン越しですが、ニューヨークの生徒の表情、指の動きがはっきりと伝わろ、会場全体が一体感覚。

ニューヨークの生徒たちも、それぞれ素晴らしい演奏を披露してくれました。

日本時間の午後8時は、ニューヨーク時間では朝6時。

ニューヨークの皆さんは、早朝6時に起き、眠い目擦りながら、ギターを手にし、カメラの前に座りました。

大変お疲れ様でした、これからご協力感謝いたします！

演奏が終わり、日本とニューヨークの生徒たちが、オンライン上で少しの時間、言葉を交わし、最後に、全員で集合写真を撮りました。

東京とニューヨーク、それぞれの場所にいる人たちが、ひとつの 時間、画面の中に収まる。。 テクノロジーありがとう！

今回のコンサートでは、 当教室を主催する私自身もヴィラ＝ロボス、プレリュード第11番を演奏しました。

ヴィラ＝ロボスは、20世紀ブラジルを代表する作曲家、クラシックギターのレパートリーの中でも特別な地位を占めます。

彼のプレリュードは、ブラジルの民族音楽とクラシックが融合した独特の世界観を持ます。

ニューヨークの多様性、日本という全く異なる文化のコラボ。

異なる文化が出会い、新しいものが生まれる、ヴィラ＝ロボスの音楽と重なリます。

アフターパーティー 交流会

コンサートの後は、会場近くの居酒屋でアフターパーティー。

演奏を終えて緊張から解放された乾杯。

コンサートの同一体験を共有した生徒同士の絆も深まろます。

ニューヨークでは、年に3回のコンサートを定期開催していました。

日本の方は仕事や学業が忙しいこともあり、年に1回を考えていましたが、皆さん大変楽しんでいたようで、今後は2回ほどのコンサート開催していくことを考えています。

冬と夏の季節ごとに演奏の場を設け、 皆さんが定期的に目標を持ってレッスンに臨める環境をつくっていきたいと思っています。

人前での演奏と言う目標があることで、日々の練習にも張合いが生まれます。

そして本番 経験が、さらに一段階上のレベルへと引上げてくれます。

Guitar Concert Vol.46 に参加してくださったすべての生徒の皆さん、そして会場に足を運んでくださったご家族・ご友人の皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。

皆さんの演奏は、どの曲も、日々の練習の積重ね、情熱が込められていて、 大変素晴らしい演奏でした、本当にお疲れ様でした！

そして、ニューヨークからオンラインで参加してくれた皆さん 朝早くからのご参加、大変感謝いたします！

The concert hosted by our studio took place at Shibuya Cultural Center Owada.

Guitar Concert Vol.46 — a student guitar concert, the first ever held in Japan, marking the transition of a guitar studio that had long been based in New York to a new stage in Japan.

From New York to Shibuya

For many years, I ran a guitar studio in New York, USA.

In New York, we held concerts regularly three times a year, and they became one of the most important events for the studio.

I always look forward to seeing students light up with excitement as they take the stage — and watching them grow through the experience.

Then came the move to Japan. In Tokyo, a city entirely new to me (Tokyo was truly uncharted territory), I met new students and began sharing the joy of guitar all over again.

Japanese students are dedicated and hardworking. With each lesson, the progress they make is truly remarkable.

Shibuya Cultural Center Owada

Shibuya Cultural Center Owada is a facility located in Sakuragaoka-cho, Shibuya, Tokyo, known as a hub for local cultural activities.

With its distinctive wood-grain interior, the space combines warmth and elegance with excellent acoustics.

The classical guitar is a delicate instrument with a smaller volume compared to the piano or violin — yet this venue is perfectly suited to carry every subtle nuance of the guitar’s sound to every seat in the hall.

During the concert, the lighting dims throughout the entire venue, leaving only the stage bathed in a soft spotlight.

The space transforms instantly into a full-fledged concert hall.

The wood-paneled walls reflect the warm light, creating an atmosphere that is both luxurious and quietly refined.

Rehearsal

Before the concert began, we held a brief rehearsal.

Among the students participating this time, quite a few were experiencing their very first concert performance.

Playing in the same environment as the actual performance.

The way the guitar resonates changes noticeably depending on the space — and playing through it beforehand is also effective for easing nerves. This was especially an important time for students performing in a concert for the first time.

The Concert Begins

At 7:00 PM, the concert opened.

The format: whoever feels ready steps up and plays first.

Bom performed “Always With Me” (Y. Kimura), a piece that blended beautifully with the world of Studio Ghibli on classical guitar. Akira Okochi performed “Minuet” (J.S. Bach).

Passionate Latin pieces were also featured — Jordan Theis performed “Rumba y Fuego” (E.J. Hochman), and Shiqing Neko performed “Un Dia de Noviembre” (L. Brouwer) — giving the concert a wonderfully diverse character.

Then came Akiko Kawano’s performance of Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Princess.” Originally a piano piece, this arrangement for classical guitar was an unforgettable performance.

Noriyoshi Miyazawa performed that beloved melody everyone knows — “Romance / Forbidden Games” — which drew warm applause from the entire audience.

Everyone played far better than they do during regular lessons at the studio. It was truly wonderful.

The nerves that come with standing on stage and playing in front of others transform into something positive — sharpening focus, and ultimately bringing out each performer’s very best.

Tokyo and New York Connect

And then — NYC.

Once the Japanese students had finished their performances, we connected online with students in New York.

This was a first-ever experiment. The venue in Shibuya, Tokyo, and the students in New York — all sharing the same concert together.

The video was crisp and the audio crystal clear, creating a sense of presence as if everyone were in the same room.

Even through a screen, the expressions on the faces of the New York students, the movement of their fingers — all came through vividly, and the entire venue felt a sense of unity.

The New York students each delivered wonderful performances as well.

8:00 PM in Japan time — 6:00 AM in New York.

The New York participants woke up at 6 in the morning, rubbed the sleep from their eyes, picked up their guitars, and sat down in front of the camera.

Thank you so much for your effort — and thank you for your continued support going forward!

After the performances, the students in Japan and New York exchanged a few words online, and at the end, everyone took a group photo together.

Tokyo and New York — people in different places, sharing one moment, all fitting into a single screen. Thank you, technology!

At this concert, I myself — as the director of the studio — also performed Villa-Lobos, Prelude No. 11.

Villa-Lobos is a composer who stands as one of Brazil’s most important voices of the 20th century, holding a very special place in the classical guitar repertoire.

His Preludes carry a distinctive world view — a fusion of Brazilian folk music and classical tradition.

The diversity of New York, the collaboration with Japan — an entirely different culture.

Different cultures meeting, something new being born — it resonates deeply with the music of Villa-Lobos.

After Party

After the concert, we gathered at a nearby izakaya for an after party.

A toast — released at last from the tension of performance.

The shared experience of the concert deepened the bonds between students.

In New York, we held concerts regularly three times a year.

Since people in Japan tend to have busy work and academic schedules, I had initially thought once a year might be appropriate — but everyone seemed to enjoy it so much that going forward, I am thinking of holding around two concerts per year.

By creating performance opportunities each winter and summer season, I hope to build an environment where everyone can approach their lessons with regular, ongoing goals to work toward.

Having the goal of performing in front of others brings a sense of purpose and energy to daily practice.

And the experience of performing live lifts each student to the next level.

A Final Word of Gratitude

To every student who participated in Guitar Concert Vol.46, and to all the family members and friends who came to the venue — thank you so very much.

Every performance was filled with the accumulation of daily practice and heartfelt passion. It was truly wonderful — you all did an amazing job!

And to everyone who joined online from New York — thank you so much for participating so early in the morning!

I look forward to hearing your wonderful performances again at the next concert.
